How We Started
Rick Salk started Take Me Out Pets in 2021 as a way to turn a lifelong love for animals into a full-time calling. After 38 years with the postal service and a career in the U.S. Coast Guard, Rick wanted a retirement centered around the genuine companionship that only pets offer. Based right here in Conimicut, Rhode Island, our family business is built on being reliable and showing up for our neighbors and their pets every single day.

A Personal Approach to Care
We believe your pets deserve someone who actually takes the time to get to know them. Rick has years of experience from his time volunteering at the Warwick Animal Shelter, where he focused on walking dogs and keeping them active. Cate Salk is a retired massage therapist and long-time cat rescue volunteer who provides the patient, quiet care that cats often need. We look after everything from dogs and cats to birds, fish, and reptiles, making sure every animal feels comfortable.

After a 38-year career with the postal service and serving in the U.S. Coast Guard, Rick decided to turn his lifelong passion for animals into a full-time calling. He has been a familiar face at the Warwick Animal Shelter since the 1990s, and those decades of volunteering taught him how to handle pets of all temperaments with expert patience and understanding. Rick’s wife, Cate, works right alongside him. A retired massage therapist and a dedicated cat rescue volunteer and foster, she brings a gentle touch and specialized expertise to every cat we care for. We are a fully bonded and insured family business, and we are both trained in pet CPR because your pet’s safety and routine are our top priorities. Our approach is simple: we let your pet set the pace. Whether they need an energetic nature walk or just some quiet company at home, we focus on creating a calm, familiar experience that keeps them happy. We want you to have total peace of mind knowing your pets are in capable, professional hands.
